  গত বছরের বর্ষবরণের রাতটা যেন ছবির মত পরিষ্কার দেখতে পান অমলবাবু | রাত ৯ টা নাগাদ পাড়ার চায়ের দোকানে এক গ্লাস গরম আদা চা নিয়ে পরের গল্পের প্লটটা ভাবতে চেষ্টা করছিলেন তিনি | এখন দোকানে তিনিই একমাত্র খদ্দের | আশপাশের কিছু দোকানপাট ইতিমধ্যেই ঝাঁপ ফেলা শুরু করেছে | আজ রাস্তা ঘাটে সন্ধে নামতেই লোক সংখ্যা কমেছে অনেকটাই | এইরকম কনকনে ঠান্ডা রাতে কেই বা বাইরে থাকতে চায়! অবশ্য এর ব্যতিক্রম পাশের গলিতেই কিছুক্ষন ধরে তার কানে আসছিল বটে | কিছু ছেলে ছোকরা মিলে মাইকে ' সাত সমুন্দর পার মে তেরে পিছে ' চালিয়ে উন্মত্ত নৃত্য করে নতুন বছরকে আগমন জানাচ্ছে | জ্যাকেটের চেনটা গলা অব্দি টেনে , গ্লাসে শেষ চুমুকটা দিতে যাবেন , ঠিক এমন সময় লোকটাকে দেখতে পেলেন অমলবাবু | কমলা হ্যালোজেনের আলো ক্ষীণ করে দেয়া ধোঁয়াশা চিরে কখন যে নিঃশব্দে সামনের বেঞ্চে এসে বসেছে লোকটা তা বিন্দুমাত্র টের পাননি অমলবাবু | প্রথম দেখে অমলবাবুর যেন মনে হয়েছিল লোকটা 1 কে তিনি আগেও এখানেই দেখেছেন | কিন্তু পরমুহূর্তেই বুঝলেন সেটা তারই মনের ভুল |               ...

Winter

Winter never really arrives. It spreads. Slowly, in the wailing of gradually descending columns of chilly air emptying the streets as it gets darker. Out by the smog hugged shanties on the highway, in the dead of night the first pot of milk tea boils on blue flames. The bright yellow fire started by a homeless man is shared by few patrolmen, intercity drivers, and daily labourers. Winters don’t differentiate. Over the years, it has always found a way to show that everyone craves for a bit of warmth. Yet, for all its gloom, winters compensate fairly too. It brings with it blue skies and a sunshine that splashes Nature with a burst of colours. Orange and yellow marigolds, butterfly shaped pansies blooming against the backdrop of a green garden. Winter is about an afternoon siesta on the terrace, blessed by the 3pm sun, a cup of hot chocolate by the fireplace, in the evenings, at a remote hill station bungalow. Hello Harry, I am not a fan. Well, to be honest with you, not even a follower. But I have seen the craze around me for you. When my cousins craved to read about your adventures, secretly hinting at birthday gifts which were meant to be surprises, I felt like a stone, unaffected by the wave passing by me. At school, making an arc out of my eyes amid boring geometry classes, I found your stories have earned its place on my best friend’s lap. Yet another bag in the classroom had the books peeping out, anxious souls waiting for recess to dive into your magical world guarded by the yellow hardcover. I have a different feeling about your entire world today. Growing up, I have finally realized that childhood is irreversible.
